Carino is an avid outdoorsman. So much so that he walked away from his 25 year information technology career in New York City, and now lives in an off-the-grid homestead in Downeast Maine. He began his outdoors adventures as an infantryman in the U.S. Marines. He has been kayaking since 1992. He is a Registered Maine Guide, a Wilderness First Responder, and CPR certified.

He has been guiding and instructing kids in wilderness trips since 2004.
He has been guiding and instructing adults in wilderness trips since 2010.

He is a Leave No Trace trainer.
The trips he has led include hiking, camping, backpacking, winter camping, snowshoeing, kayaking, canoeing, bicycling, and orienteering.
One of his passions is teaching kids outdoors skills. His greatest passion is getting low-income, inner-city kids out of their underserved neighborhoods, bringing them to Maine, and taking them on multi-day sea kayaking expeditions.
Cell phone reception is unreliable at his off-the-grid homestead.
